Understanding Energy Storage Market Requirements in the Northeast: Innovations, Strategies, and Opportunities

Tuesday, February 11 I 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm

BCEC – Room 153A/B

Presented by: International Alliance for Battery and Energy Storage (IBESA)

Join energy storage professionals for a dynamic and engaging workshop exploring the latest developments shaping the energy storage industry in the United States Northeast. This session will provide practical insights into new business models, emerging technologies, and smarter system integration that are transforming the way energy storage supports a cleaner, more reliable energy future.

Through real-world examples and case studies, participants will learn about the environmental benefits of energy storage, innovative ways to improve decarbonization, and strategies to create long-term financial success. Experts will highlight new opportunities in residential and commercial storage, discuss the importance of software in managing systems effectively, and showcase solutions for today’s energy challenges.

Furthermore, the event will address important topics, such as navigating changing battery supply chains, the future of large-scale energy storage, creative financing options, and adapting to new government policies and market conditions. This session is designed to help all stakeholders – from beginners to experts – gain the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in this rapidly evolving storage industry.

Take this opportunity to connect with industry leaders, share ideas, and shape the future of energy storage in the Northeast.

Campaigning For Projects: How to Win With Communities & Local Officials

Tuesday, February 11 I 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm

BCEC – Room 152

Presented by: Tigercomm; Community Clean Energy Coalition (CCEC)

Are you a developer encountering higher project risk from NIMBY opposition? Community engagement has emerged as the greatest immediate challenge to the clean energy transition, with sunk costs from canceled projects averaging $2 million per solar farm and $7.5 million per wind farm.

To build local support for clean energy projects and reach key stakeholders where they are, the industry must adopt more nimble and adaptable outreach techniques that mirror the tactics of sophisticated political campaigns.

This session, originally debuted at RE+ 2024, will have you design a detailed plan to win the social license from the community that commissioners need to approve your permit. Attendees will spend the session walking step-by-step through Tigercomm’s custom campaign planning methodology driven by an experienced political mindset. This will include identifying the right local stakeholders, communicating project benefits at the emotional level, and recruiting supporters. Participants will also receive takeaway resource guides.

Cost: $350 for access to the in-person workshop

Workshop Add-ons: Workshop add-ons are available at an additional price and will be invoiced by the Community Clean Energy Coalition (CCEC). You must purchase the $350 workshop registration through RE+ before inquiring about these add-ons.

Add-on Pricing:

  • $150 for access to a video recording of the workshop, digital copies of the presentation slides, and the campaign plan template.

If you are interested in either of these options, please contact Colin Silver, SVP, Content & Strategy, SEIA at [email protected]

*Please note that this training program is intended for staff at developers, EPCs, or other businesses involved in the siting, permitting, and construction of clean energy projects.

It’s A Cluster: The Challenge of Interconnecting Resources to Bulk Power & Distribution Grids

Tuesday, February 11 I 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm

BCEC – Room 153C

Presented by: Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA)

In the past few years, the number of projects mired in bulk interconnection queues has risen dramatically, with the median time from interconnection request to initial power flows now taking over five years. Smaller assets wishing to connect to distribution utility systems face their own hurdles. Meanwhile, demand pressures are increasing, with some utilities seeing requests to interconnect 10s of gigawatts of new load in the coming years. State and federal politicians and regulators are seeking to address these challenges, and new technologies – including AI – may help to address at least some of these impediments. This course will explain the challenges of both hooking up to the grid and building more transmission and  distribution infrastructure. It will also look at  various technologies that may help remediate the problem, and the efforts of politicians and regulators to find solutions.

Cost: $225 for SEIA/SEPA members, $300 for non-members
